In the official Iranian narrative, Hezbollah is Lebanon's Islamic Resistance movement, formed after Israel's invasion of Lebanon in the early 1980s.
Iranian sources regard it as part of the "Axis of Resistance" and a popular, defensive force against Israel, emphasizing its role in Israel's 2000 withdrawal from southern Lebanon and the 2006 confrontation. In the official narrative, Hezbollah is also a political and social organization in Lebanon, not only a military one.
Assessments of the organization differ greatly across states and sources; this entry reflects the official Iranian narrative.
